about

Los Angeles emcee/producer Funk Logik bring us his first instrumental album "Refugee". Showing a wide range of trunk subbing bass lines, head knocking drums, and groovy melodic chords. Funk Logik is the new excitement on the beat scene. Influences include the likes of Pete Rock, Madlib, DJ Quik, and Q-Tip. Although Funk Logik draws inspiration from past greats his production has a sound of the now. The album flows past the golden-era of Hip-Hop and R&B while remaining very much in the present. He knows his craft and doesn't sleep on it, so it doesn't matter if he's producing, rapping, or mixing on a track, its sure to be fresh.

"Refugee" embodies the spirit of the Haitian refugees that have arrived at the U.S.- Mexico border in recent months seeking new life. After the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti thousands of families fled to Brazil to look for work, but after the Olympics, opportunities dried up, and they headed north to America, traveling more than 7,000 miles through 10 countries, many died. Funk Logik adds "I made this album to shed light on something that matters me. I went into the studio everyday asking myself, how many miles will I walk for freedom? Would I survive the trials and tribulation if it was me? Since my brother and sisters are lacking everything, the least I can do is share their story. I can be the voice for voiceless." Often forgot about, and never seemed to be mention in todays media the people of Haiti are the latest victims of a humanitarian crisis to hit the U.S.- Mexico border.

As a result, "Refugee" is a symbol of hope and awareness. It’s a fully executed project, serving as a promising staring point for new fans, it also bridges a gap between younger and older music lovers. Funk Logik also works closely with Sin in an hip-hop duo as Blakface, whose next album "Bamboozled" will be released later this year.
